The great dunes of Erg Chebbi — camel trails at golden hour, nights in desert camps, dawn over the sand.

In this place

Erg Chebbi’s dunes rise out of the hamada like a mirage made solid — up to 150 meters of wind-sculpted sand, glowing orange at sunset and silver under the moon.

The classic experience is the camel trek in at golden hour, dinner and drums at the camp, and waking before dawn to watch the light return. It’s the Morocco travelers dream about afterward — worth every kilometer of the road in.

Ways to experience it

Good to know

  • October–April is the sweet spot — warm days, crisp nights, big skies
  • The road in is long from any direction; that’s part of the journey, not a bug
  • Desert nights are cool — pack a warm layer even in shoulder season
