Essaouira

Ocean wind, white walls, grilled fish — the Atlantic town where Morocco exhales.

In this place

Essaouira is wind and whitewash — a working fishing port wrapped in 18th-century Portuguese ramparts, with a medina you can actually relax in. The blue boats, the Skala cannons, the grilled fish at the port: it’s Morocco at its most easygoing.

It works as a day trip from Marrakech or as the exhale at the end of a grand tour. Either way, the sea air resets you.
