The spiritual heart, the great labyrinth — nine thousand alleys of living medieval city.

In this place
Fès el-Bali is the world’s largest living medieval medina, and it earns the superlative — tanneries with their dye pits, brass-beaters, madrasas, the great Qarawiyyin. It’s a working city, not a museum, and that’s what makes it extraordinary.
Fès rewards walkers and the curious. It’s also the natural starting point for the desert road south and the blue city north — many of our routes begin the morning after a medina walk.
Ways to experience it
- Fès Medina Private Walking Tour — the essential half day on foot
- Volubilis & Meknès Day Trip — Roman ruins and the imperial city
- Chefchaouen Day Trip — the blue city for a day
- Fès to Marrakech Sahara Tour (One-Way) — desert road ending in Marrakech
- 5-Day Imperial Cities & Desert Express — Fès inside a five-day loop
Good to know
- The medina is hilly with steps — solid shoes, and tell us about mobility needs
- Fès is a year-round city; spring and autumn are kindest for long walks
- Pair the walking tour with an onward desert or Chefchaouen day for a full Fès base
